I’m pleased to share that my latest opinion piece has been published in the South China Morning Post: “Let’s listen well to Hong Kong students’ mental health woes.”
The Core Argument
The center argument of this piece is to resist reductive understanding of youths’ mental health issue. While many argued that students’ mental health deteriorated over the years due to the mounting academic pressure, I argue that if one has taken the initiative to listen to our youths, they will realize the nuances of the issue. A lot of effective remedies might be easy and free, so long as we develop a deep understanding of how our youths experience their complex adolescence.
Key Proposal
Drawing from my experience as a former secondary school teacher and current researcher, I propose establishing student advisory councils in every secondary school—spaces where young people’s voices can genuinely shape discussions about their wellbeing.
